Our special cichlids, or Astatotilapia latisfasiata, are commonly called “Zebra Obliquidens.” They are a species at risk. They are distinguished by the black stripes on their silver body and bursts of red and yellow on their bellies.
Females are also colorful, although they don’t have the red and yellow, that the males have. Females will actually guard the fry for 2 months. So they can be raised with their parents.
These cichlids have a mild temper. When they do display aggression, it’s usually towards fish within the same species. They do best in ratios of one male to two or three females.
Males can reach up to six inches while females are smaller. Zebra Obliquidens are omnivores, eating mostly insects. Care should be taken that it gets a lot of protein in its diet along with color enchanting flake food. Enjoy are small photo gallery.
